Florida's Bright Futures Scholarship Program


To be eligible for an initial award from any of the three types of scholarships under the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship program, a student must:

  1. Be a Florida resident

  2.  Earn a Florida standard high school diploma or its equivalent from a public or private high school, or complete a state approved home education program.

  3. Be accepted by and enrolled in an eligible Florida public or independent post-secondary institution.

  4. Not have been found guilty of nor have plead nolo contendere to a felony charge.

  5. Apply for a scholarship by seventh semester of high school.

  6. Meet all the criteria for one of the three scholarships shown below:

Florida Medallion Scholar

Gold Seal
Vocational

3.5 weighted, unrounded GPA in the15 academic units (19 academic units for the class of 2004 and beyond) as identified by the Board of Regents:

English - 4 credits

Math - 3 credits (Algebra I and above)

Science - 3 credits

Social Studies -  3 credits

Foreign Language - 2 credits in same language

*May use up to 4 additional credits from courses in the academics listed above and/or an AP or IB fine arts course to raise GPA

(*17 academic credits from the above areas and 2 additional approved electives for the class of 2004 and beyond)

1270 SAT or 28 ACT

75 hours community service

Public Institution: 100% of  tuition and fees, plus $300 per semester for college-related expenses (excluding summer term) prorated by term and hours
Private Institution:  100% of the average tuition and fees at a comparable
Florida public institution and $600 cost of education allowance prorated by term and hours.

3.0 weighted, unrounded GPA in the 15 academic units (19 academic units for the class of 2004 and beyond) as identified by the Board of Regents:

English - 4 credits

Social Studies - 3 credits

3.0 weighted, unrounded GPA using the core 15 credits (15.5 for class of 2003 and beyond) and required for graduation (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Practical and/or Performing Art, Life Management Skills and Personal Fitness)

3.5 unweighted, unrounded GPA in a minimum of 3 sequential Vocational courses

The Gold Seal is a two year scholarship.  A recipient may become eligible to continue a four year degree by transferring to a merit scholarship award upon acceptance into an upper division of a
Florida public or independent post secondary institution.

Florida public institution prorated by term and hours.
