is an opportunity for all Juniors and Seniors to earn a 2008 Ford Mustang.  All you have to do is take your report card (for most recent grading period), to Bartow Ford Company to register.  For every "A" , three entries will be awarded.  For every "B", one entry will be awarded.  For perfect attendance, three entries will be awarded.  In May 2008, a drawing will be held and one lucky and very
deserving student will be awarded a brand new Ford Mustang.

KFC - Must maintain 3.0 GPA, unmet financial need,  pursue Bachelors' degree in Restaurant/Retail management, Business Management, Computer Sciences or Liberal Arts at a UNCF institution, work at KFC for at least one year. More details at link. Deadline June 30 each year.   

The Jackie Robinson Foundation - You must apply online, be a college bound high school senior, U.S. Citizen, Minority, minimum SAT 900/ACT 21, leadership potential, financial need. $7,000 per year will be awarded.  See FAQ's on website for more information.

Johnson and Wales University - Several academic- and financial-need based scholarships incoming college freshmen. Most students are automatically eligible upon acceptance to the University.  See link for description and requirements.  Revolving deadlines, depending on scholarship.

Florida Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest -  The theme of the essay contest has not been issued yet.  Keep checking this site for details and deadline.  No more than 500 words in length, the essay must include certain information.  See link for all details.

NFAA Arts Awards ARTS 2008 is open to high school seniors. Eligible artists must be high school seniors during the 2007-2008 school year. Registration deadline is October 1, 2007 and the postmark deadline to submit audition/portfolio materials is Nov. 5, 2007.  Competition areas are Jazz, Photography, Theater, Music, Dance, Writing, Visual Arts, Film & Video, and Voice.

Writer's of the Future Contest - Opportunities for new and amateur writers of new short stories of novelettes of science fiction or fantasy.  Quarterly prizes range from $500 - $1,000.  Annual award: $4,000.  The Contest has four quarters, beginning on October 1, January 1, April 1 and July 1. The year will end on September 30.

Illustrator's of the Future Contest - Opportunities for Science Fiction and Fantasy artists.    Quarterly prizes range from $500 - $1,000.  Annual award: $4,000.  The Contest has four quarters, beginning on October 1, January 1, April 1 and July 1. The year will end on September 30.

U. S. Senate Youth Program (USSYP)  is a program open to high school juniors and seniors offering them the opportunity to get a hands-on feel for government. Two students from each state are selected to travel to Washington D.C. for a week long experience that will include major policy addresses by various government officials including members of the cabinet and senators. Students will also receive a $5000 scholarship for college. High school juniors and seniors are eligible to apply - IF they are currently serving in an elected position in the student government. (See specific positions on application).  Students must also be Permanent Residents.  Deadline for application October 26, 2007.

E. B. Kennedy Scholarship - Erskine College (South Carolina) applicants ONLY -  This scholarship is judged on Christian commitment, leadership potential, scholastic achievement, and vigorous outlook. Deadline 10/15/2007  Guidance must fill out nomination forms.  Student must fill out candidate forms.

Outstanding Students of America- Seniors Only for $1,000.00 Scholarship. Biography and Essay required MUST be submitted to your Guidance Counselor for verification PRIOR to mailing.  Deadline October 10th of each year.

Burger King Scholars - $1000 Scholarship - Must have worked 40 weeks out of last 52 weeks, GPA 2.5 or higher, Community service, financial need.   You don't need to work at Burger King to apply for this - any employment will do.  Apply online only -  directions on link - get access code on link before going to application.  Deadline is February 15, 2008. 

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarships- Apply online from September 1st to October 31 each year.  You MUST apply online.  High School Seniors only for the FOUR YEAR AWARD.

Silver Garland Awards -  These annual awards are solely based on community service!  You MUST apply in the category in which you have performed your community service.  Nominees will be selected on student's service to community, leadership, character, and achievement.  Pre-application required for HCHS selection committee.  Deadline for pre-application is October 31, 2007 to Career Lab.  See Mrs. Roberts for pre-applications and more information. Application will not post to this link until December.

Southern Scholarship Foundation - Room and board at only FOUR state universities - Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida A & M, University of Florida, Florida State University. See application for details. Deadline for Spring term is 11/1/07.  Deadline for Fall term is 3/1/08. Apply EARLY!

The First Lady's Arts Recognition Scholarship  The signature program of Arts for Life! is the Arts Recognition Scholarship Program. Each year, twenty-four high school seniors representing dance, music, theatre, visual arts, and media are awarded $1,000 scholarships on the basis of artistic merit and academic excellence. To be eligible for a scholarship students are required to be a graduating high school senior in Florida, complete an application, write a brief essay addressing “How the arts have influenced my life” and “The role of the arts in my future,” and provide a sample of their work. A committee of judges for each arts discipline, respective experts in their field, review and score the students’ essays and work samples. Each committee selects the top scoring applicants to receive a scholarship. Deadline 11/1/07.

Ron Brown Scholar - Several $40,000 top prizes.  For academically talented, highly motivated African American high school seniors who intend to pursue undergraduate degrees full-time. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Applicants should demonstrate academic achievement, exhibit leadership ability, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need.  Selection process.  Essays, biography required.  Apply early and beat the November 15th deadline to be eligible for several other scholarships, however the final deadline for the ONE Scholarship is January 9, 2008.

Ruth Eckerd Hall Youth Scholarship in the Performing Arts - Performing Arts Award of $2,500  in the following disciplines: Vocal, Instrumental, Musical Theater/Theater, & Dance. Selections are based on artistic ability, academics and recommendations.  Recordings required with application.  Auditions are required for finalists.  Last year's application available now.  Download it and start working on it.   Current year application will be up in September.  Deadline in November.

Ruth Eckerd Hall Jazz Youth Scholarship - Vocal/Jazz - Same as above, but for Youth Jazz performers.  Different application. Deadline in November.

Grady Rayam Prize -  The “Negro Spiritual” Scholarship Foundation works with Orlando Opera to sponsor a vocal competition for sacred music performed by the solo voice in characteristic Negro spiritual style. Eleventh or twelfth grade level students who are of Afro-ethnic descent may enter a statewide vocal competition to rehearse and perform these arranged Negro spirituals. Students who enter the competition must work with a voice teacher to learn a new piece of music sent to them, and to meet the high vocal standards of this competition.   Deadline 12/7/07 for application.  $20 fee is required to apply which covers the music, list of titles, music copy for the assigned competition piece.

Lions Club Youth Exchange Scholarship - $1,000 awarded to outstanding Senior students in Lions District 35-0.  Deadline November 30, 2007.  Applications in the Career Lab.

Youth Heritage Oratorical Scholarship Program  sponsored by the Tampa Organization of Black Affairs.  Are you a great speaker?  Workshops will build confidence for the final judging in December.  Scoring based on Speech quality and speech presentation, and student application - as outlined in the application packet.   Short bio required with application.   Youth Public Speaking Event - Workshop in November in Tampa.  Open to 9th - 12th Grades!  Three Workshop Dates are MANDATORY.  2006 dates and speech topic have not been announced yet, but usually in late November through mid-December.

The National High School Oratorical Contest - Deadline January 1 of each year. There is no application required to enter.  Contact your local American Legion Post for entry. Eligible participants in The American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest shall be citizens of or lawful permanent residents of the United States. Participants speak on prepared oration and assigned topic. Local, State and National levels of winners.  See specific details at link. Open to 9th - 12th Grades!

Toyota Community Scholars Program - High schools nationwide are asked to nominate one student for the Toyota Community Scholars program. The school's nominee should have a consistent record of academic excellence, be active in school programs, and be recognized as a leader by his/her peers and instructors. In addition, the nominee must have initiated or be actively involved in a service program that addresses a school or community need.  Students who are interested should discuss their community service in a short essay and attach to academic resume and submit to Mrs. Roberts by deadline date. Scholarship committee will then decide on the ONE candidate.  Only one nominee will be accepted from a school. Deadline to Mrs. Roberts is January 3, 2008.

Humanist Essay Contest - This essay contest has been discontinued, but they have placed links on this site to direct you to other similar essay contests.

2007 SAE Engineering Scholarships  (Six offered) - for any type of engineering field (computer, chemical, electrical, etc) or related science (math, chemistry, physics, biology, technologies, computer sciences). GPA 3.75 and must score in the 90th percentile of SAT I and/or ACT test. See each scholarship requirements before applying. Seniors only - Deadline December 1, 2007  

AIA/AAF Minority/Disadvantaged Scholarship Nomination  Seniors interested in Architecture.  The application process has two parts: an initial nomination by either a high school guidance counselor, AIA component, architect, or other individual who is aware of the student's interest and aptitude for architecture, and an application which is sent to eligible students after nominations are reviewed. The nomination form is due in early December and the application, an essay, statement of disadvantaged circumstances, letters of recommendations, transcripts and a drawing are due in mid-January. National High School Recipe Contest -  For Seniors who love to cook and are planning to attend Johnson and Wales University. Submit recipes in one of these two categories: Healthful Family Dinner or Healthful Dessert and compete for these renewable tuition prizes. Grand Prizes - full tuition, First prizes - $7500 tuition, Second prizes - $5,000 tuition, Other finalists -$3500 tuition.  Deadline 12/10/07.  Start creating NOW and enter and win these renewable.

Educational goals and need-based essay contest.  Eligible students may NOT have already been receiving or awarded a full-tuition scholarship or waiver from another source.  Quarterly awards. All-Ink.com - $10,000 Scholarships offered to students who will be entering college or technical school in Fall 2008  GPA 2.5, US citizen, short essay required.  Deadline December 31, 2007.

The Florida JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship -  $1000 grant available to graduating high school Seniors who plan to attend college or vocational school.  Applications may be found at link or in the Career Lab. George S. and Stella M. Knight Essay Contest - $1,000 - $3,000 for 750 - 1,000 word essay.  Open to Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors.  Deadline January 31, 2008

Discover Card - Juniors Only!!!  2007- 2008 Application available for download after December  1, 2007. Minimum GPA 2.75. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding accomplishments in Special Talents, Leadership, Obstacles Overcome and Community Service.  Deadline 1/31/08

Elks National Foundation - Any child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2002, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2002, is eligible to apply. The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2008. Great-grandchildren are not eligible.  High School Seniors only.  SAT/ACT before December 31, 2007, apply through relatives Elk Chapter.  See application for other requirements.  Deadline January 11, 2008. 

Poinciana Ladies Club Scholarship - $500 award - Must reside in Poinciana Villages 1 - 10.  Applications in Career Lab. Deadline January 25, 2008

Poinciana Area Council - $1000 award - MUST live in the 34759 zip code.  Applications in Career Lab.  Essay, Transcript, Community Service required. Deadline back to Career Lab is January 31, 2008

The Heart of Florida Foundation Scholarship Fund -  Don't miss out on this important annual application that assists several of our students each year. Renewable, too! Detailed application - don't wait till the last minute!  Applications for SENIORS are available in the Career Lab now.   Deadline is March 21 back to Career Lab.   Winners announced at Senior Ceremony on May 19th.

Gates Millennium Scholarship - Must be minority, GPA 3.3 or above, financial need, high school seniors only. 2008 -2009 FAFSA MUST be filed by 2/1/08. Students and parents must complete 2007 tax return in order to file FAFSA. This is a highly competitive process, and students are urged to submit their nomination packets as soon as possible to ensure that their packets are complete and meet all requirements. See website for nomination forms, and other information.  DEADLINE for PAPER applications is 12/31/07.  DEADLINE for online applications is 1/11/08 - 11:59 pm. See Mrs. Roberts in Career Lab for assistance.  This is a very large application - DO NOT WAIT until the last minute.

Sam Walton Community Scholarship  Each operating Wal-Mart store and SAM'S CLUB is eligible to award two $1000 scholarships to qualifying local high school seniors. An independent panel of judges will select the recipients on the basis of financial need, academic record, ACT/SAT test scores and school involvement.  You MUST apply online by clicking on "Scholarship Selection Tool."   Deadline: January 14, 2008.  Three other scholarships here - for WalMart employees and children of employees.

Education is Freedom National Scholarship Program provides college scholarships in the amount of $2,000 to high school seniors that meet the following criteria: U.S. resident for one year at time of application, High School senior, GPA 3.0 - 3.5.   Apply between November 1st and Deadline of January 15th, 2008.

Bright House Scholarships - Eligibility: 10th grade, eligible for free or reduced lunch, & planning to attend a community college.  See Ms. Roberts for application.  Deadline: January 18th.

The Dave Logan Scholarship - Min. 3.5 GPA, athletics required, letters of recommendation from your high school coach and teacher, transcript required.  500 word essay on "Why you believe you deserve this scholarship."    Winner must be willing to be interviewed on BayNews9.  This is a one-time award given to one male and one female high school senior in the viewing area. Deadline 1/26/2008.

National Eagle Scout Association - The Hall/McElwain Merit Scholarship is available to students who are Eagle Scouts. To be eligible for this award, you must have received credentials from the national office, be a graduating high school senior or current undergraduate student, and demonstrate leadership ability in Scouting and a strong record of participation in activities outside of scouting. You must also submit a letter of recommendation from a Scout leader to be eligible.  Deadline: January 31st of every year.

James Day Scholarship Minimum 2.0 GPA, active 2007-2008 track athletes only, short essay, must be competing in the Bob Hayes Invitational Track Meet with high school, must enroll in college in Fall 2008.  Deadline February 1st.  Download or applications in Career Lab.

Polk Community College Foundation Scholarships - Seniors only. Many scholarship opportunities are available for students through the Polk Community College Foundation, Inc. Last year, the PCC Foundation administered over 700 scholarships.  Students only need to submit one application to apply for all the endowed scholarships that are offered each year. Please note that you are only eligible to receive one endowed scholarship. Deadline: March 31.

Pace Scholars Award - University of West Florida applicants.  Top 5% of senior class.  Two 750-word essays required, two letters of recommendation, activities in high school and community.  Applications in Career Lab.  Deadline February 1, 2007

Andrew Glenn France Memorial Scholarship - must be enrolled for at least 12 semester hours at PCC,  graduated from high school with a "C" average or better, must maintain 2.5 GPA at PCC.  This is for one academic year used for tuition, books, and fees only. May reapply if student maintains eligibility.  Deadline February 1st.

Polk Community College Academic Merit Scholarships -
3.2 GPA or higher.  Good for 60 hours or two years tuition. Must apply to PCC, take CPT test, and submit scholarship application before February 1st.  Download application or pick up in HCHS Career Lab.

Polk Community College Cultural Arts Scholarships - scholarships are available in the areas of music, drama, art, and publications.  Recipients will be selected from students who graduate from area high schools who have demonstrated special skills in a program or activity.  Students must apply to PCC, take CPT test, and submit scholarship application before February 1st.  Applications available at PCC office.

Polk Community College Foundation Scholarships - Seniors only. Many scholarship opportunities are available for students through the Polk Community College Foundation, Inc. Last year, the PCC Foundation administered over 700 scholarships.  Students MUST apply to P.C.C. first however to apply for the scholarship.  Apply online - fees waived for HCHS students.  Students only need to submit one application to apply for all the endowed scholarships that are offered each year. Please note that you are only eligible to receive one endowed scholarship.
