Music (Includes Band, Chorus, Ensemble) Courses

Band I (13023000)   The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop basic technical skills on wind or percussion instruments through the refinement and performance of high school band literature. Emphasis will be placed on the development of skills in interpretation of notation and expressive markings, individual and ensemble performance, and critical listening.

Band II (13023100)  The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop intermediate-level technical skills on wind or percussion instruments through the refinement and performance of high school band literature. Emphasis will be placed on the development of skills in interpretation of notation and expressive markings, individual and ensemble performance, and critical listening.

Band III (13023200) The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop proficient technical skills on wind or percussion instruments through the refinement and performance of high school band literature. Emphasis will be placed on the development of skills in interpretation of notation and expressive markings, individual and ensemble performance, and critical listening.

Band IV (13023300) The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop consistently proficient technical skills on wind or percussion instruments through the refinement and performance of high school band literature. Emphasis will be placed on the development of skills in interpretation of notation and expressive markings, individual and ensemble performance, critical listening, and aesthetic response.

Instrumental Ensemble I (13024600)  The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop basic performance skills on a selected instrument in an ensemble setting using varied high school literature. Performance techniques, music knowledge,
critical analysis, and aesthetic response are emphasized.

Instrumental Ensemble II (13024700)  The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop intermediate-level performance skills on a selected instrument in an ensemble setting using varied high school literature. Performance techniques, music knowledge, critical analysis, and aesthetic response are emphasized.

Instrumental Ensemble III (13024800)  The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop proficient performance skills on a selected instrument in an ensemble setting using varied high school literature. Performance techniques, music knowledge, critical analysis, and aesthetic response are emphasized.

Instrumental Ensemble IV (13024900) The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop advanced performance skills on a selected instrument in an ensemble setting using varied high school literature. Performance techniques, music knowledge, critical analysis, and aesthetic response are emphasized.

Instrument Tech I / Percussion I (13024200)  The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop basic performance skills on a selected instrument in a solo or small ensemble setting using varied high school literature. Performance techniques, music knowledge, critical analysis, and aesthetic response are emphasized.

Instrument Tech II / Percussion II (13024300)  The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop intermediate-level performance skills on a selected instrument in a solo or small ensemble setting using varied high school literature. Performance
techniques, music knowledge, critical analysis, and aesthetic response are emphasized.

Instrument Tech III / Percussion III (13024400) The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop proficient performance skills on a selected instrument in a solo or small ensemble setting using varied high school literature. Performance techniques, music knowledge, critical analysis, and aesthetic response are emphasized.

Instrument Tech IV / Percussion IV (13024500) The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop advanced performance skills on a selected instrument in a solo or small ensemble setting using varied high school literature. Performance techniques, music knowledge, critical analysis, and aesthetic response are emphasized.

Music Theory III (13003200)  The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop knowledge of the application of moderately complex music structures and elements in varied music styles and genres. Emphasis will be on ear training,
composition, and analysis.

AP Music Theory (13003300)  The purpose of this course is to develop the student’s ability to recognize and
understand the basic materials and processes in any music that is heard or read in score.


Chorus

Chorus provides students with instruction in the development of technical skills in the choral setting.  Emphasis will be placed on the development of skills in reading music notation; music theory and composition; individual and ensemble performance techniques; analysis of form, style, and history included in the performance preparation of varied choral literature; and critical listening skills and aesthetic values.  the content should include, but not be limited to, the following; healthful and musically appropriate vocal tone production techniques; independent interpreter vocal tone production techniques; independent interpretation of varied choral literature, application of rhythmic and melodic notation expressive markings in performances, composing, and improvising; analysis of musical form, varied style periods, and aesthetic perceptions; evolution of musical performer and a listener; application of appropriate choral performance techniques; responsible participation in music activities; roles and influence of choral music and musicians in culture, society, and everyday life.

HCHS Chorus I (13033100) The purpose of this course is to extend experiences in basic vocal production techniques and part singing.  The content should include but not be limited to extending developing of basic musicianship skills including choral performance techniques, vocal tone production, musical literacy and music listening.

HCHS Chorus II (13033200) The purpose of this course is to provide students with instruction in the development of basic vocal musicianship and technical skills through the study of varied choral literature.  The content should include but not be limited to interpretation of notation; establishment of appropriate tone production and perform, varied style periods and aesthetic values.

HCHS Chorus III (13033300) The purpose of this course is to provide student with instruction in the application of vocal musicianship and technical skills through the study of varied core literature.  The content should include but not be limited to independent interpretation of easy-medium easy level coral music:  refine musical form, varied style periods, and aesthetic perceptions.

HCHS Show Choir I (13034001)  The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop basic performance skills in a solo or small ensemble setting using varied high school literature. Emphasis will be placed on healthy and expressive singing, performance techniques, music knowledge, and development of critical analysis and aesthetic response to music.

HCHS Show Choir II (13034200)  The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop advanced performance skills in a solo or small ensemble setting using varied high school literature. Emphasis will be placed on healthy and expressive singing, performance techniques, music knowledge, and development of critical analysis and aesthetic response to music.
