- The
purpose of this course is to enable students to begin to acquire
proficiency in German through a linguistic, communicative, and
cultural approach to language learning. Emphasis is placed on
the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing
skills and on acquisition of the fundamentals of applied
grammar. Cross-cultural understanding is fostered and real-life
applications are emphasized throughout the course.

- After
successfully completing this course, the student will comprehend
formal and informal spoken German, possess vocabulary and
structure that allows accurate reading of newspaper and magazine
articles and modern German literature, compose expository
passages, and
express
ideas orally with accuracy and fluency.
This course offers high school
students college-level German under the guidelines of the
Advanced Placement program.

Spanish I Honors (0708340H) The purpose of the program
is to provide a qualitatively and quantitatively different
learning curriculum to the highly capable and motivated
beginning Spanish student. The program aims to foster active
participation of the students in the target language and develop
proficiency in the communication skills.
Spanish II (07083500) The purpose of this course is
to enable students to enhance proficiency in Spanish through a
linguistic, communicative, and cultural approach to language
learning. There is continued emphasis on the development of
listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and on
acquisition of the fundamentals of applied grammar.

Spanish II Honors (0708350H) The program purpose is to
provide a proficiency-based curriculum which integrates the
language functions, context and linguistic forms so that
students will become bilingual and will be able to function in
the target language. The program will help students satisfy
possible college language requirements as well as develop higher
level thinking skills, inquiry skills, and creative thinking
for students who are serious about he language and are planning
on continuing to upper levels.
Spanish III (07083600) The purpose of this course is to master and expand
the skills acquired by the students in Spanish II. Specific
content to be covered includes but is not limited to expansions
of vocabulary and conversational skills through discussions
based on selected readings. Students acquisition of grammatical
concepts is strengthened by everyday life activities.
Spanish III Honors (0708360H) Specific content to be
covered includes but is not limited to more advanced language
structure and idiomatic expressions with emphasis on
conversational skills. There is growth in vocabulary for
practical purposes including writing, magazine and literary
works.
Spanish IV Honors
(07083700) The purpose of
this course is to enable students to enhance proficiency in
Spanish through a linguistic, communicative, and cultural
approach to language learning. There is continued emphasis on
the development of listening, speaking, reading, and
writing skills. Experiences with Spanish literature are
broadened. Cross-cultural understanding is fostered and
real-life applications are emphasized throughout the course.
AP Spanish (07084000)
Students will learn to comprehend formal and informal spoken
Spanish, possess vocabulary and structure that allows accurate
reading of newspaper and magazine articles and of modern Spanish
and Hispanic-American literature; compose expository passages,
express ideas orally with accuracy and fluency.
