Physical Education Courses
First Aid Safety (08003200)
The purpose of this course is to enable students to acquire
skills in first aid, emergency care, and personal safety. The
content includes safety, first aid procedures, adult, child, and
infant CPR, community resources and services, career and public
service opportunities.
Fitness
Lifestyle Design (15013100) The purpose of this course is
to enable students to extend their knowledge of fitness concepts;
design, implement, and evaluate a personal fitness program; and
develop an individualized level of health-related fitness.
The content includes safety practices, terminology,
biomechanical and physiological principles, concepts and principles
of health-related fitness, personal and group fitness activities,
personal fitness programs, fitness assessment, nutrition, consumer
issues and benefits of participation.
Individual / Dual Sports I (15024100) The purpose of this
course is to enable students to develop knowledge and skills in
specified individual and dual sports and to maintain or improve
health-related fitness. The content includes safety practices,
rules, terminology, and etiquette, history, biomechanical and
physiological principles, techniques and strategies, sportsmanship,
fitness activities, fitness assessment, consumer issues, benefits of
participation.
Individual / Dual Sports II (15024200) The purpose of this
course is to enable students to develop knowledge and skills in
specified individual and dual sports and to maintain or improve
health-related fitness. The content includes safety practices,
rules, terminology, and etiquette, history, biomechanical and
physiological principles, techniques and strategies, sportsmanship,
fitness activities, fitness assessment, consumer issues, and
benefits of participation. Activities specified in Individual
/ Dual Sports II may not be repeated in Individual and Dual Sports I
or III.
Life Management (08003000)
(Required) The purpose of this
course is to develop and enhance critical life management skills
necessary to make sound decisions and take positive actions for
healthy and effective living. Some topics include human growth
and development through adulthood, positive emotional development,
including suicide and violence prevention, communication,
interpersonal, and coping skills, responsible decision-making and
planning, nutrition and physical activity, substance
abuse, consumer knowledge, health-related community resources,
safety education, including one-rescuer cardiopulmonary
resuscitation (CPR), first aid for obstructed airway, and injury
prevention, disease prevention and control, personal health and
individual wellness planning, health advocacy skills.
Personal Fitness (15013000)
(Required) The purpose of this
course is to (a) acquire knowledge of physical fitness concepts, (b)
understand the influence of lifestyle on health and fitness, and (c)
begin to develop an optimal level of fitness. Some topics are safety
practices, technology applications, assessment of
health-related fitness, components of physical fitness, health
problems associated with inadequate fitness levels, stress
management, fitness program design, biomechanical and
physiological principles, nutrition, consumer issues, benefits
derived from participation in physical activity.
Paddle &
Racquetball (15024000) This course provides students with
opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills in the above sports.
It includes, but is not limited to, in depth knowledge and
application of skills, techniques, strategies, rules, and safety
practices of these sports, and knowledge of the organization and
administration of the games.
Recreational Activities (15024700) The purpose of this
course is to enable students to develop knowledge and skills in
recreational activities and maintain or improve health-related
fitness. The content includes safety practices, rules and
terminology, history, biomechanical and physiological principles,
techniques and strategies, sportsmanship, fitness activities,
fitness assessment, officiating, organization and administration of
recreational activities, consumer issues, benefits of participation.
Softball - Beginning (15033300) The
purpose of this course is to enable students to develop knowledge
and skills in softball and to maintain or improve health-related
fitness. The content includes safety practices, rules and
terminology, history, biomechanical and physiological, principles,
techniques and strategies, sportsmanship, fitness activities,
assessment of skills and health-related fitness, officiating,
organization and administration of softball activities, consumer
issues, and benefits of participation.
Softball - Intermediate (15013900) Will
provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills
in softball in regard to techniques, strategies, rules and safety
practices. Skill acquisition and improved fitness is stressed. that may be used in recreational pursuits.
Team
Sports I (15033500) The purpose of this course is to enable
students to acquire basic knowledge of team sports play, develop
skills in specified team sports, and maintain or improve
health-related fitness. Includes but not limited to knowledge,
application of skills, techniques, strategies, rules, safety
practice necessary to participate in flag football, volleyball,
basketball, speedball and flickerball. In addition, the maintenance
and/or improvement of personal fitness shall be stressed.
Activities specified in Team Sports I may not be repeated in Team
Sports II.
Team
Sports II (15033600) The purpose of this course is to enable
students to develop knowledge of team sports play, develop skills in
specified team sports, and maintain or improve health-related
fitness. May include but not be limited to
knowledge, application of skills, techniques, strategies, rules,
safety practices necessary to participate in soccer, softball, track
and field, and gatorball. Strategies of team sports play, skill
acquisition, maintenance and/or improvement of personal fitness
shall be stressed. Activities specified in Team Sports I may not be
repeated in Team Sports II.
Volleyball
- Beginning (15055000) The content should include but not be
limited to in-depth knowledge and application of skills, techniques,
strategies, rules, and safety practices necessary to participate in
power volleyball, and knowledge of the organization and
administration of volleyball activities. Strategies of team play,
skill acquisition, and personal fitness should be stressed.
Volleyball
- Intermediate (15055100)
Will
provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills
in power volleyball that may be used in recreational pursuits.
Weight Training
- Beginning (15013400) Includes knowledge of the importance
of muscular strength/endurance, assessment of muscular
strength/endurance, knowledge of health problems associated with
inadequate levels of muscular strength/endurance, knowledge of
skeletal muscles, application of biomechanical/physiological
principles to sound nutritional practices.
Weight Training - Intermediate (15013500) Includes but not limited
to reinforcement of knowledge introduced in beginning weight
training, expansion of weight training programs. Knowledge of
various weight training theories, knowledge of various equipment
available in the field to develop muscular strength, muscular
endurance.
Weight Training
- Advanced (15013600) Includes but not limited to
reinforcement of the knowledge introduced in beginning and
intermediate weight training. Knowledge to design and implement a
personal weight training program to meet specific needs and goals,
knowledge of the organization and administration of weightlifting.
