PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Introduction

Welcome to the Physical Education Department of Haines City High School.  We offer a variety of classes and opportunities for our student body.  We encourage each student and parent to read the following guidelines and adhere to them as we blast into this great new year at Haines City High School, “Home of the Hornets”!

Dressing Regulations

Uniforms

Students are required to dress daily in a suitable uniform.  The Physical Education Department has uniforms available to purchase from $12.00-$15.00 per set.  Students may also purchase shirts and shorts separately.  Students wishing to purchase their own uniforms may do so.  This would include a SOLID gray shirt and SOLID gray shorts with NO writing on either.  Students who do not wish to wear shorts may wear long gray sweat pants.  Tennis shoes are required as part of your uniform.  No other shoe is acceptable. Warm-ups available for winter for only $25.00 per set.

*Students must dress out to participate -

NO EXCEPTIONS!
Dressing/Showering

Students are allowed 10 minutes to dress in and shower at the end of class.  No tardy passes will be given.

Excuses/Make-up

Excuses

A written note from a parent/guardian is required to be excused from participation.  This does NOT excuse the student from dressing out, only from participation.  If the student is to be excused for more than 3 days, then a doctors’ note will be required.  (Students will be required to do an alternate assignment).

Make-up Work

All absences must be made up in all Physical Education classes.   Generally, Friday is the make-up day for missed fitness runs and normal absences.  Students are required to run one mile for each day absent from any Physical Education class.  All written assignments, skills tests, and written tests must be made up within 2 days of any absence.  Each teacher in our department has a method for make-up work and doctors’ excuses.

Grading

Students in Physical Education classes will be assessed by the following criteria:

  • Dressing out/Participation
  • Fitness Runs (2 per week)
  • Written tests (1-2 per 9 weeks)
  • Skills tests – Activity classes
  • Max outs – Weight Training

Locker Room/Storage

Lockers
